We took the kids to Moody Gardens Saturday for Valentine’s day. Not romantic, but still a day filled with the people I love.
The kids are at fun ages now. They like to be with us, but they are no longer in a hurry. When they were younger, it was all rush, rush, rush. What’s the next thing? I want to see this. Let’s go over here. I’m tired/hungry/thirsty/bored.
This time it was a nice, relaxed day. We took our time and looked at everything. There were lots of requests to read the descriptions about the exhibits. James told me ALL about penguins. He knew all the different types without looking. “Did you learn about penguins at school?”
“Yes. See that one?” And then he was off telling me some story about it. He also talked all day about bears, which is apparently what they are learning about now. “Did you know that pandas have two babies, but they only take care of one because they know which one will be the strongest?”
No. I didn’t know that. “Maybe that’s why they are almost extinct.”
He looked at me like I was ignorant. “No. That’s because the humans are destroying their food supply and moving into where they live.” I may have a future animal rights activist on my hands.
We walked the aquarium twice. He would not leave until we found the megalodon model.
Then he had to tell me about shark teeth, and of course he had to get a shark tooth necklace before we left.
On the way home I took David’s hand. “It was a good day.”
He agreed. It was a very good day.
