One of my favorite things about having a baby girl was getting to buy her cute clothes and dressing her up however I wanted. Cady had a closet full of clothes before she was ever even born. Frilly dresses, cute casual dresses, rompers, pajamas with matching blankets… You name it. She had it. And as she got to be a toddler/preschooler all of those outfits came with matching bows.
Now that she is almost eight she has developed her own fashion sense, and while she no longer lets me dress her up anyway I want (hello? smocked school girl dresses and tights!), I still buy her tons and tons of clothes. Her dresser is cram packed so full that it almost will not shut. Nowadays there is just a lot more SPARKLE and GLITTER and peace signs and animal print (when it is tasteful enough for me to allow it).
I’m always looking for places to buy her clothes that are affordable, that carry the brands I like, and has appropriate things from which to choose. Recently I found CookiesKids.com. It is a great online store for kids clothes. Cookie’s Kids started as a brick and mortar store in Jamaica, Queens in 1972, and they still have seven stores in the NYC area. In 2007 they started an online store selling school uniforms and eventually expanded to sell their entire inventory online.
I like to buy the kids holiday clothes every year to wear for photos and to the different events we have to attend. I decided to try out the site to see if I could find something for Cady. I thought the site was very easy to use. I like how you can narrow down your choices to the specific type of outfit you are looking for. You can also drill down to search by size, color, and price.
One of the great things about the site is that they use the Alva sizing system. You can input information about your child, like height, weight, and body type, and it will tell you which size you should choose. This is great if you have a child that is between sizes.
I initially started out looking at party dresses because OMG THE PRETTY!!!, but then my practical side took over and I decided to go with something that she can get more wear out of, but that will still look nice. Also, I think the outfit I chose will make it easier for her to ride in the car and play with her cousins once we get to where we are going.
Cookie’s Kids also sells accessories and shoes, and a girl can’t get a new outfit without getting a new pair of shoes! I decided to go with a pair of Mary Janes because she is still a little girl darnit they are appropriate for all ages.
In the spirit of honesty (because I don’t know any other way to be), I really liked the outfit I picked out for Cady, but the shirt was a tad short. I don’t think this has more to do with the brand (Youngland) of the outfit and the fact that Cady has a super long torso and nothing at all to do with the store. Also, one of the pockets had not been stitched up properly. I did not research sending it back because I’m lazy I think the skirt and vest are cute and she can wear them with a different shirt. BUT Cookie’s Kids does have a return policy that you can review if you are interested.
Cookie’s Kids is being super nice and offering all of my readers 10% off their purchase now through December 21st! Just use code mommamadeitlookeasy when you check out. So if you need holiday clothes for kids or you want to stock up (or restock) on school uniforms you should go check them out.
