Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mom has a beautiful singing voice, my dad played the guitar, and my grandfather could play just about every instrument he ever touched. Music is woven so deeply into my family history that I can’t look back at a family event and not remember it being there.
Luckily I married a man that feels the same way. David’s mother was a wonderful piano player with a beautiful voice, and his grandfather actually built guitars and played multiple instruments.
We wanted to instill a love for music in our children as well. Fortunately we haven’t had to work very hard to do it. Cady loves to sing and has been begging me for piano lessons (how do I fit in another activity?). James is the same and will make an instrument out of pretty much anything that makes noise (although I’m starting to be afraid he may have inherited my inability to carry a tune).
Since they were born I have bought pretty much every toy I could that resembled or imitated playing a musical instrument. That is why I was so excited to be able to review the LeapFrog Magic Touch Guitar. The second I saw it I knew that James was going to love it. I didn’t realize that Cady would be fighting him to play it as well.
Like all LeapFrog products, the Magic Touch Guitar is very well made. The bright, vivid colors beg for kids to play with them. The new line of Magic Touch products uses touch screen technology instead of buttons. I like that it has the smooth front that is easier to wipe down and keep clean and there are no buttons to get stuck or to quit working.
There is a button to select the song you want to play, an applause button (that I love), and a slide button to add cool riffs. You can also “strum” the strings to make the song play faster or slower. The “lightening” button lets you change from an electric to an acoustic sound, which is awesome.
The guitar comes loaded with 10 popular children’s songs including Rockin’ Robin and Itsy Bitsy Spider. Here is a video of James giving you a sample of his favorites.
