Friday afternoon on the drive home the weather was so amazing I got this crazy idea. We needed to get out of town. I just couldn’t face the same ole same ole this weekend. We needed to go to the lake.
My neighbor has a cabin at the lake that she rents sometimes. I called her as soon as I got home to see if it was available this weekend. It was! We were packed, out the door and on our way within three hours. That’s something considering we also had to feed the kids and had absolutely no idea what we were going to take with us.
We had a great time. Saturday we got up and just took our time hanging out and getting dressed. Then we walked down to the lake and let the kids explore (and the grownups too). Baby Girl came back to the cabin with quite the rock collection. Bud just threw his rocks into the water.
That night we sat out on the deck and made s’mores. Yummm! I’m pretty sure Bud’s favorite part was the chocolate.
After pretty much no sleep Saturday night (my turn to sleep with Bud), we got up bright and early and I made pancakes for everyone. Well not so much bright, but it was early. After breakfast we went to an abandoned state park and looked around. I managed to sprain my ankle walking in the soft sand, but we still had a good time.
Then it was time to clean up the cabin and head home. None of us were really ready to go, but it was back to the grind. Seriously. As soon as I walked through the door I started laundry. Which is when I realized that we had left a laundry basket at the lake. With all of the kids toys in it. Including Baby Girl’s American Girl doll, her baby (that she sleeps with), and her rainbow. Guess who had to go back to the lake?
But regardless of all the negative stuff (the sprained ankle, the return trip and no magical fairy visiting my house and cleaning while we were gone) it was an amazing weekend. Which I think was made even better by the fact that it wasn’t planned. We just hopped in the car and left. Completely stress free.
